el pele
Manuel Moreno Maya, “El Pele,” the most well-known and award-winning of today’s flamenco singers from Córdoba, worked at the Bodega as a young man. A house as closely linked to flamenco as Bodegas Campos couldn’t help but pay tribute to a Córdoba artist who was already crooning in these warehouses as a teenager weaving handmade carafe covers.
On the walls of the room, photographs and memorabilia contributed by Manuel Moreno “El Pele” illustrating stages of his life interspersed with a modernist sideboard and antique belongings acquired from the second-hand dealers of the Corredera, such as copper braziers and other objects.
A framed newspaper clipping in the room states that “his voice and his sense of purity have given this Córdoba singer a touch of genius that is more appreciated outside than inside a Córdoba that he feels and loves.” Paco Campos gave him his stage name, and he memorialized him on the wineskin he signed.
